Short but severe. At 130 yards, Hole 10 looks like a gift — until you examine the green. The putting surface is among the most severely sloped on the course, with steep fall-offs on multiple sides and a pronounced tilt that makes any putt from the wrong side of the hole feel like putting on a ski slope. Half the battle is the shot; half is surviving the green.
Shot-by-Shot Strategy
Tee Shot
Identify the pin position and approach from the correct side. This is not a center-green hole — the green's slope means being on the wrong side creates a near-impossible two-putt situation. Assess the flag, determine the high side versus the low side, and aim your shot to the higher portion of the green relative to the pin.
Putting
From above the hole, this green is treacherous. Any putt from the upper half can get away from you quickly on a firm day. From below the hole, the surface is far more manageable — putts are uphill and slower. Leave every approach below the hole, and if you find yourself above it, treat the putt as a lag and a guaranteed two-putt rather than a make attempt.
⚠Gotchas — What Kills Your Score
- •The short yardage creates complacency. Players arrive expecting a routine iron and leave stunned by a 4-putt. Take the green slope as seriously as the wind.
- •Pin positions on the lower portion of the green are essentially traps — they look accessible but leave approach shots on the wrong side with no safe two-putt line.
- •In afternoon wind, the slope of the green can combine with a crosswind to move a rolling putt sideways. Factor this in on putts over 15 feet.
Wind Intelligence
At 130 yards, wind adjustments are similar to hole 3 — proportionally significant. A 20 mph crosswind can push a wedge shot half a green-width offline. More importantly, even after the ball lands, a stiff wind can move a slow rolling putt on this severely sloped surface. Play wind on both the shot and the putts.
