About the Course

The original Bandon Dunes course, designed by David McLay Kidd and opened in 1999, launched one of the greatest golf resort stories in American history. Hugging the Pacific cliffs with seven holes directly along the ocean, it delivers an authentic Scottish links experience that few American courses can match. Wind, fescue rough, and unrelenting ocean views define every round.

What to Know Before You Play

Course-specific intel for your round

  • 1

Holes 4–11 run along the Pacific cliff edge — this is where the magic happens and where the wind is most brutal. The prevailing southwest wind will be mostly in your face on the outward nine.

  • 2

The fescue rough is penal — anything more than 10 yards off line can mean a lost ball or unplayable. Play to the fat part of every fairway.

  • 3

The greens are firm, fast, and significantly sloped. Leave the ball below the hole at all costs — uphill putts are your friend here.

  • 4

Holes 14–18 are the back cliff stretch and among the most dramatic closing holes in golf. Budget extra time to soak them in.

  • 5

The par-3 16th 'Amen Corner' with the ocean backdrop is the signature Instagram moment — plan your shot but also your photo.

Course Personality

The grandfather of Bandon. Raw, windswept, and unapologetically links. If you're only going to play one course here, play this one — it captures the entire Bandon spirit.
