About the Course

Old Macdonald, designed by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina and opened in 2010, pays homage to Charles Blair Macdonald, the father of American golf course architecture. The course features massive, penal bunkers, bold contours, and green complexes inspired by the great holes of Scotland. It's the longest course at Bandon and plays every inch of it.

What to Know Before You Play

Course-specific intel for your round

  • 1

Old Mac's bunkers are enormous, deep, and extremely penal. They are not greenside targets — they are hazards to be avoided at all costs. The Sahara bunker on hole 5 alone can wreck your scorecard.

  • 2

The green complexes are the most contoured at Bandon. Many feature false fronts, punchbowls, and severe run-offs. Know that a front pin can become a back-fringe chip in seconds.

  • 3

At 6,944 yards, it's the longest resort course. Don't underestimate the par-4s — several play over 470 yards into a typical headwind.

  • 4

The course has excellent birdie opportunities on the par-5s if you avoid the bunkers. Both reachable par-5s can set up eagle putts with solid tee shots.

  • 5

Old Mac plays differently in the afternoon wind. Request a course guide or ask your caddie about each hole's predominant wind direction.

Course Personality

Bold, massive, and historically inspired. Old Mac demands power and precision in equal measure. The golden age architecture creates a timeless feel unlike anything else at the resort.
