A mid-length par 3 at the heart of the back nine. The golden-age bunker design is fully expressed around this green — deep, penal bunkers frame both sides and a false front rejects anything landing short. Despite appearing straightforward at 183 yards, the combination of wind exposure and severe green complex make par a quality score.
Shot-by-Shot Strategy
Tee Shot
Mid-iron aimed at the center of the green. The bunkers left and right are both penal — don't attempt to attack the pin position from the tee. In crosswind conditions, aim at the windward side of the green and let the breeze bring the ball to center. Take one extra club to guarantee carrying the false front.
Putting
This green has the most dramatic internal slopes of any par 3 green on the back nine. The right portion tilts steeply left; the left portion tilts right — the green funnels putts toward the center from both sides, creating a gentle punchbowl-like effect. From center, putts require careful reading of subtle breaks.
⚠Gotchas — What Kills Your Score
- •The false front is the most punishing miss at 183 yards — a ball that appears to be on the front of the green will roll 10–15 yards back toward the tee. Take enough club.
- •Both bunkers are equally deep and penal. A par from a greenside bunker here is an exceptional up-and-down. Avoid the sand at all costs.
- •The gentle punchbowl tendency of the green creates putts that break more than they appear — first-time players consistently under-read break on this green.
Wind Intelligence
The 11th is fully exposed to the prevailing southwest wind, which crosses from left to right. In a stiff crosswind, a 183-yard hole requires aiming 20–25 feet left of the pin and taking one extra club. In a direct headwind, take two clubs more. The false front becomes even more dangerous in a headwind as shorter-flying balls land further from the green center.
