About the Course

Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2001, Pacific Dunes is routinely voted the best course in America by golfers and critics alike. Where Bandon Dunes follows the cliff edge, Pacific Dunes tumbles through towering sand dunes inland, creating a more enclosed, dramatic routing. The natural contours of the land dictate every shot, and no two rounds play the same.

What to Know Before You Play

Course-specific intel for your round

  • 1

The dunes create natural wind tunnels — pay attention to the tree tops and grass movement, not just what you feel at ball level. Wind at impact can differ dramatically from what you feel standing up.

  • 2

Pacific Dunes has the most undulating fairways at Bandon. Many lies will be sidehill or downhill — practice those shots on the range before your round.

  • 3

The course plays to a par 71, and the par-5 holes are very reachable with good tee shots. The birdie opportunities are real — take them.

  • 4

Holes 11–13 are the ocean cliff sequence and among the most photographed in golf. Breathe, take in the view, then make your best swing.

  • 5

Miss greens short and below the hole. Most greens slope severely away from you on approach — long is death.

Course Personality

The pinnacle. Artful, natural, and endlessly strategic. Every hole presents a puzzle that rewards creative shotmaking over brute force. You'll want to play it again immediately after finishing.
