A downhill par-3 that feeds into a bowl-shaped green nestled below the clifftop ridge. The elevation drop can be deceptive — the ball stays in the air longer and the wind has more time to work on it. The bowl design rewards balls that land short and funnel toward the center, making this one of the more forgiving holes on the course if you play it correctly.

Shot-by-Shot Strategy

T

Tee Shot

The elevation drop gives you an extra 10–15 yards of effective carry. Factor this into your club selection — a stock 8-iron might become a 9-iron here. Aim for the center of the bowl and let the green do the work. Do not chase pins that are tucked on either edge of the bowl.

P

Putting

Bowl greens have one advantage: putts from outside the bowl break toward the center. Read every putt as breaking toward the lowest point of the bowl. The worst putts are the short ones from inside the bowl where the slope can appear flat but subtly runs away from you.

Gotchas — What Kills Your Score

  • The downhill angle makes it easy to go long. Err short and let the bowl collect the ball.
  • When the wind is blowing up the hill (from the ocean toward the tee), this hole plays its full 155 yards or more. Do not automatically take less club because of the downhill angle.
  • Bowl greens can lull you into thinking putts are straight — they rarely are. Walk around the green fully before putting.

Wind Intelligence

Wind direction is particularly variable on this hole because the cliff ridge creates a natural wind break above the green level. Pay close attention to the flag movement at the green, not just what you feel at the tee. Downhill holes at Preserve often have less wind at impact than you expect.
